Boko Haram sets MTN office, masts ablaze in Maiduguri, kills four

Suspected Boko Haram members on Wednesday set the office of a telecoms operator ablaze in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State in North-East Nigeria.

The extremists also set nine telecommunications masts ablaze and killed four persons.

This is the latest in an on-going insurgency in the troubled North-East.

Suicide Bomber Blows Up Church In Bauchi

At least ten people have been killed this morning as a suicide bomber drove a Honda car into a church, Harvest Church sandwiched between Living Faith church and Deeper Life Church in Yelwan Tudu, Bauchi. According to an eyewitness, the attack has killed several people including the suicide bomber and guards at the church. Boko Haram Threatens To Bomb Lagos And Abuja in 72hours

In a phone call to the editor of Africa Independent Television (AIT) yesterday evening, Boko Haram threatened to unleash bomb attacks in Lagos and Abuja in another 72hours, unless President Goodluck Jonathan appears on AIT for an open discussion with the sect. The phone call was broadcasted on AIT news at 8pm last night.

We will wipe out Boko Haram- President speaks

The president yesterday on his visit to kano, where multiple bomb blasts occurred on Friday, has promised to wipe out Boko Haram. He stated this at the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero’s palace when he went to pay him a courtesy visit in order to assess the extent of damage of Friday bombings which claimed about 200 lives. He has however pleaded with Nigerians to join hands with security agencies by exposing suspicious elements within their neighborhood.

Foreigners get Nigeria travel warning

Britain and New Zealand have warned their nationals against travelling to parts of Nigeria after a series of terrorist bomb attacks in the Northern city of Kano left over 150 people dead. In the wake of the attacks, the British Foreign Office updated its travel advice for Nigeria, warning people not to travel to Kano. This was also stated on its website.

Boko Haram kills 6 Deeper Life worshippers as ultimatum expires

As a three-day ultimatum by the Boko Haram sect to Southerners and Christians living in northern Nigeria expired yesterday, gunmen stormed a branch of Deeper Life church in Gombe State, north East Nigeria, and shot six worshippers dead, Johnson Jauro, the church’s pastor said.

Jauro said that his wife was among those murdered while at least 10 other worshippers were injured in the attack.

“The attackers started shooting sporadically. They shot through the window of the church, and many people were killed including my wife,” Jauro told newsmen by telephone from his Deeper Life Church in Nasarawa.

“Many of my members who attended the church service were also injured,” he said.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but a string of church bombings on Christmas Day by Boko Haram left about 50 people dead and hundreds others injured.

The group recently issued a three-day ultimatum to Christians and Southerners living in northern Nigeria to leave the region or face the consequences.

Boko Haram gives three-day ultimatum to Southerners in the North

A Boko Haram spokesman has issued an ultimatum to Christians in the northern part of the country to leave for the South within 3days. Speaking to journalists via a telephone chat, Abul Qaqa said, ‘We find it pertinent to state that soldiers will only kill innocent Muslims in the local government areas where the state of emergency was declared. We would confront them squarely to protect our brothers’.

Not satisfied, he went ahead saying,  “we also wish to call on our fellow Muslims to come back to the north because we have evidence that they would be attacked. We are also giving a three-day ultimatum to the southerners living in the northern part of Nigeria to move away.”

Police Arrest 2 Over Plot To Bomb Third Mainland Bridge

An alleged telephone conversation between two suspected members of Boko Haram, to bomb Lagos Third Mainland Bridge has led to their arrest. The suspects were arrested on Tuesday at Ogba area of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria when their alleged dastardly plan to bomb the ever busy longest bridge connecting Lagos Island to the mainland was exposed.

Though the details of the incident and the arrest were still sketchy at press time,P.M.NEWS gathered that the two men, one of them identified as Satua Safana, 23, are from Guinea Republic. The police at the Area ‘G’ Police Division in Ogba were tipped off by an unidentified man who overheard the suspects while communicating on phone with their accomplices that they were on their way to bomb the bridge.

Police source told P.M.NEWS this morning that during a preliminary investigation at the police station, incriminating evidences on the bomb attempt were uncovered through the suspects’ handsets.They have been reportedly transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department, CID, Panti, Yaba Lagos for thorough investigation.

When P.M.NEWS visited the CID this morning, the police declined to comment on the incident. However, a police source confirmed that the suspects have been flown to Abuja for further interrogation.

When our correspondent contacted the Lagos State Police Command spokesman, Samuel Jinadu, he said he was in a meeting with the Police Commissioner and told our correspondent to call him later.
